(500) Days of Summer

500daysposterI really enjoy anything that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in and Zooey Deschanel is great as well. Her character lacks a bit and I don’t feel like she’s this amazing person that he should get all caught up in. Maybe that’s the point.

But I like the part at the end where she says, something along the lines of, I knew with him what I was never sure of with you. It’s too bad that love isn’t fair and that it doesn’t make any sense. There’s this atmosphere of comfort and warmth when you find the right person and it’s really, “If I never meet you in this life, let me feel the lack.” You don’t really know what’s missing, you just know that it is, until it isn’t.

“It’s love, not Santa Claus.”

Lock & Key

What I really liked about this book, among all of her books, is that this time the girl isn’t being saved by a guy. They kind of help each other save each other. I think that’s important, to not have these teen novels portraying these stories of guys coming in and saving you. That you can save yourself and help someone else along the way.

She’s great though and I always read her books fast. There’s always a lot of truth to the stories and the worlds she creates and the part I enjoy the most is when she has different characters from her previous stories come and interact with one another in the more recent stories. You get the sense that there’s so much more going on in the world, that stories overlap and can impact us everyday.

“A lot can change between now and then. Even your mind.”

“It’s never something huge that changes everything, but instead the tiniest of details, irrevocably tweaking the balance of the universe while you’re busy focusing on the big picture.”

This is Water

I loved this book. And the best part was that it was given to you in small bits and pieces. A few lines on each page. Enough time to take a bite, nibble on it and then swallow before moving on to the next piece.

I wish that there was something like this at my graduation. Instead of people rambling on about the importance of art. Although, Margaret Atwood’s was good. Something that planted a seed. This definitely did and I’d very much like to buy it and read it every year or so. See how the words change over time. How their meaning and definitions evolve as my life does.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

harry-potter-6-posterUm, I got really really excited for this movie to come out cause the preview was just so amazing. And the movie was pretty good. Compared to most of the HP series, it was amazing. But I hate hate hate it when they make changes to the story for NO apparent reason.

So I hated how they changed the ending of the story, when Dumbledore dies. There really wasn’t any need to do that. I hated that they passed up the fact that there had been a fight scene and that Ginny and Harry didn’t kiss until after a Quidditch game. But other than my pickiness about changing minor plotlines. I loved it.

Someone Like You

Not one of my favorites from her, but I liked how she described how we can get caught up in what we think our identities are in relation to other people and ourselves. It’s so easy to get caught up in what others expect of us and try and change to suit their needs. But eventually that little voice in the back of our head reminds us that what we’re doing might be for the wrong reasons and that we should stay true to ourselves.

Whatever Works

whatever_worksBoris was hilarious and it was funny to see how once people start being honest with themselves, their lives seem to bloom. Of course this looks great in a movie, but I wonder how often it really works out in real life.

It was funny and I laughed out loud a couple of times. Much needed during this time of preparation.

Public Enemies

public-enemies-posterThought it was a little slow. But I liked it a lot because it brought back memories of the books I used to read as a kid. There was this one about all the former public enemies and the tales that went along with how they were caught. I remembered the one about John Dillinger and his wooden gun. It was nice to see it come to life.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

transformers-2-posterI’m not sure why everyone kept saying this movie sucked. I liked it a lot and the action scenes were just as amazing as the first one. Come on people, it’s a summer blockbuster movie, what do you expect?

I really liked the humor and I like Sam’s smart ass remarks. Megan Fox is beautiful. Action was great. Glad I went to see it at the IMAX and super glad that Chris snuck past and got us last row seats. Even those seemed almost too close. And haha, they left it wide open for a third one.
