Dear John
Had a bad day and needed a little movie therapy. Was really wanting to see A Single Man, but since I had Cineplex points galore, I couldn’t really justify paying for a movie. But I knew this probably wouldn’t let me down.
Movies based on Nicholas Sparks books are so much better than the actual books. Plus, why is the music in the previews so much more powerful than the music in the movie itself? I loved the way they used the Snow Patrol song in the preview and I really wanted to hear it in the movie. And they changed this one quite a bit, so that there was a happy ending for John.
But I liked the adaptation and while I don’t think it’s the best adaptation (that goes to either A Walk to Remember or The Notebook), I enjoyed it and really felt for John’s character. Although, I didn’t like how Savannah wanted to have her cake and to eat it too. And at the end, did they just randomly, by chance, run into each other again (which I like) or did they plan to meet one another (which I don’t really like)?
