How to Train Your Dragon

howtotrainyourdragonWe saw this one with Jenny as a special treat for her, because she’s never gone to the movies before. We weren’t thinking straight, and forgot that she’s 1) a girl and might not like dragons and 2) dragons might be scary. She’s 8, but apparently it was a little too much for her. Thank god we didn’t see it in 3D.

But overall I think she had a good time and the movie was funny. I laughed a lot and yes, I guess, it would be cool to have dragons as pets. I thought that the visuals were great and the humor was funny. To be honest, I think Dreamworks is getting better than Pixar. The only bonus that Pixar has over Dreamworks is the heartwarming feeling that you get for their characters, almost as if they were real people. Like Wall-e. But to be honest, I think the past movies Kung-Fu Panda and Monsters vs. Aliens are a lot funnier.

Jennifer’s Body

jennifers_body_ver2Some people will do just about anything to get what they want. Kind of a crazy spin on how far people will go to become famous. Adam Brody was pretty funny and the soundtrack was pretty good.

Seems like Jennifer didn’t have anything good for herself unless she stole it from Needy (what an unflattering nickname). She took Colin and Chip, but in the end Needy still got revenge for both of them.

More Than a Game

more_than_a_gameThe Fab 5. I loved it when they were talking about going from the Fab 4 to the Fab 5. Like they had an induction or something. But I think that’s what made them so special and this kind of brotherhood is rarely found, ever, not only in sports.

I guess that’s the power of love and being a part of something bigger than yourself. And I love that it’s all a true story. Because it all means so much more when it really happened. I love the Band of Brother’s series because of the brotherhood, but you always know that it’s all a nice romanticism than reality.

And I was really impressed with Dru Joyce II. There really isn’t anything better in life than being a coach and helping people find their way.

Hot Tub Time Machine

hot_tub_time_machineA stupid movie that embraces being a stupid movie, but through embracing its existence, just turns into a really smart, clever, stupid movie. I loved it. I was laughing almost the entire time. And I love that John Cusack is still right up there in entertainment, reliving the 80’s all over again…

But the coolest part of the night was seeing George Stroumboulopoulos in the theater. But I could never go to movies with him, because he sits in the front freaking row (not the super front, but still, come on).

Dare (2009)

dareWow, was it all about pushing to the extreme? Was she out there trying to experience life, using him to give her that edge, while he was being used and looking for love? And then in the end he got the experience and the acting career from the pain of looking for love and she settled back into main stream status quo?  Or was he always just using them? Talk about a mind fuck.

“So, who are you supposed to be?”

“No book in the whole world can teach you how to feel. You have to figure that out for yourself.”

The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond

loss_of_a_teardrop_diamondI like how Fisher decides to stay and brave out society. To stay and make amends for the harm her father has done. And perhaps the reason why he changed his mind about her was because she was going to take the hard way and make amends and stay in one place.

But I never really get this high academic, symbolic literature. I have a hard time seeing the point, I always have. So, I’m not really sure what else was being said.

The Brothers Bloom

P12147002Nice twist ending. Didn’t really see that one coming. And I guess there are some people who will never change and dying because of their ways is fine by them, it’s just a by product of their lives.

But there’s something to be said about being brave and taking action. And sometimes when someone else has taken the lead the whole time, others learn to just follow and despite what they hope to achieve on their own, they’re crippled by those they rely on.

“I think you’re constipated, in your fucking soul.”

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

movie_8127_posterI like movies where the main character isn’t perfect, but flawed in many ways. And this movie was excellent is showing you someone who wasn’t perfect or even always good, but there’s pieces of him in all of us. We all think of ourselves as better or bigger than we are. It’s kind of refreshing to see someone not hide all the ways he thinks he’s better than everyone else. It comes back and bites him in the butt anyways.
